What is the fitment factor?
The fitment factor is the multiplier a pay commission uses to move every employee from the old pay matrix to the new one. Your revised basic pay is your current basic pay × the fitment factor, rounded to the nearest ₹100. It applies to pensions too: basic pension is multiplied by the same factor.
The formula behind every fitment factor
Fitment factor = (1 + DA merged) × (1 + real increase). DA was 60% on 1 January 2026, so a factor of 1.60 simply turns basic + DA into the new basic. The 7th CPC worked the same way: 125% DA gave 2.25, and a 14.3% real increase took it to 2.57.
| Real increase | Fitment factor | Level 1 basic |
|---|---|---|
| 10.0% | 1.76 | ₹31,700 |
| 14.3% | 1.83 | ₹32,900 |
| 20.0% | 1.92 | ₹34,600 |
| 30.0% | 2.08 | ₹37,400 |
| 42.5% | 2.28 | ₹41,000 |
| 60.0% | 2.56 | ₹46,100 |
| 79.0% | 2.86 | ₹51,500 |
